In the suggestive landscape of Roseto Capo Spulico rises the mysterious Castle, a place shrouded in legend. It is said that this majestic fortress came to life on the ruins of an ancient Christian temple, overlooking the cliff plunging into the sea. It was Emperor Frederick II of Swabia who intervened with a decree that restored it to its current splendour.
Frederick II left the signs of the three great monotheistic religions, underlining the importance of tolerance between different faiths. On the main gate of the Castrum you can see the Rose of the Rosicrucian Family, a symbol recalling the renowned Templar family. Recent studies on an ancient omphalos emerged during restorations depict the passion of Christ and an Agnus Dei.
The trapezoidal plan of the castle is surprisingly similar to that of the Temple of Jerusalem, and to the east flows the water of the sea, recalling the Jordan. The Castle of Roseto Capo Spulico reveals itself as an enchanting place, wrapped in an atmosphere of mystery and Templar charm.
